BANGING OUR OWN DRUM

Here The Drum takes a look at independent London-based agencies. This list is not an attempt to represent the biggest and most established London agencies, but rather the marketing companies that are principally managed by their owners.
The list includes agencies headquartered in the city, a smattering of independent UK-wide groups, and some just dipping their toes in the Thames as they expand their scope beyond traditional boundaries. Some agencies have hundreds of staff, some have just a handful.
Pre-cursor for entry into the research was that businesses have to deliver a high-level of customer satisfaction based on the RAR process of client references.
Agencies are rated across pre-defined criteria including client service, creativity and value for money, and those passing this quality threshold are then ranked to compile the final table.
The ranking process utilised ran across six areas:
• Turnover
• Turnover per head
• Turnover growth
• Turnover % growth
• Gross profit (info not published)
• Gross profit growth (info not published)
As well as brute size, the system measures areas such as growth, gross profit and turnover per employee, key indicators in terms of profitability and efficiency.
